Robert Berdella was given the moniker ‘’The Kansas City Butcher’’, due to the fact that he had murdered roughly six men in his own home in Kansas City, Missouri, between the years 1984 and 1987. He is also sometimes referred to as ‘’The Collector’’, based on the movie of which Robert claims to have heavily derived inspiration for his murders from. He would frequently drug his victims, hold them captive, and experiment with various forms of torture on them. Many were administered electrical shocks to various parts of their body, including the testicles. He would embed needles in their testicles, necks, and beneath the fingernails. Some had drain cleaner injected in their larynx in an attempt to render them mute. He also attempted to reduce one of his victim’s hearing capacity by filling his ears with caulking. One of the victims had his left eye repeatedly swabbed with drain cleaner. After each of the men would die, he dismembered their bodies and disposed of them in trash bags. Robert’s final victim managed to break free of his restraints and escape the house after four days of repeated sexual abuse and torture. He immediately summoned police and told them everything. The police were not at all prepared of the horrors they would come across once they searched Robert’s house at 4315 Charlotte Street. Among the human remains, they also found a chainsaw soiled by blood, human flesh, pubic hair, and 334 Polaroid pictures of the men he brutalized and killed. Robert would later describe the murders as “some of my darkest fantasies becoming my reality’‘. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life imprisonment, where he remained until his death in 1992.
