Vera Leigh, KCBC. (1903-1944.) Born Leeds, England. Worked for French Resistance, escaped to England via Spain. Joined SOE in 1942. Sent to France in May 1943. Courier, Inventor Circuit, codename Simone. Also Liaison Officer, Donkeyman Circuit. Arrested 30th October 1943 and sent to Fresnes Prison. Later interrogated in Paris, then sent to Karlsruhe. On 6th July 1944 she was taken to Natzweiler-Struthof concentration camp and executed. She was 41.
