This woman is suffering from an occupational disease known as “Radium Jaw.” During the Edwardian Era of the early 1900s radium was all the rage, this “magical new element” was used in everything from make-up and toothpaste to luminescent paint. Female factory workers- " Radium Girls" – painting clock and watch dials contracted radium poisoning from ingesting small amounts over time of the supposedly harmless paint. They licked the ends of the paint brushes to achieve a fine point.
