In the Cairo Museum and in other museums around the world there are examples of stoneware that were found in and around the step pyramid at Saqqarra. They show unmistakable tool marks of a lathe-manufactured item. At least one piece is so flawlessly turned that the entire bowl balances perfectly on a round tipped bottom no larger than the size and shape of the tip of a hen's egg. The only problem with this technology is that it wasn't invented until the 17th century with the arrival of the Industrial Revolution. What happened during the 3,000 years in between?
